A Good Excuse

Well, I can finally FINALLY announce why I have been so preoccupied these last many months and not posting very regularly.

We. are. MOVING!

Yes.  It's true.  I never in a million years thought I would ever have to post something like this because I already had my whole life planned out and let me tell you- moving was not part of the plan.

I distinctly remember having this moment last August- just an average, ordinary day- when I looked around and thought to myself, "wow.  my life is perfect.  could it possibly get better than this?"

So, you see, it's my fault we're moving.  I jinxed us.

Sorry, Jay :(

I admit, I was heartbroken at first.  Even now, I'll have occasional sad glimmers in my eyes to leave behind all we have fostered here...  (or maybe that's the exhaustion?)

But I always like a good adventure too, and this will surely be that.

I should really be sleeping right now, so I'm not going to go into the details.

yet.

BUT, I just had to get that off my chest.

We're moving, and that's why I'm MIA.  I've been cleaning and packing and posting pictures of the house, and learning about selling a home on my own, and cleaning, and weeding, and climbing trees to saw out dead limbs and not cooking good meals and allowing my kids to spend WAY to much time in front of a screen and, OH, did I mention that Jay has been out of town for most of all this?

Yes.  He has.

Luckily, I have fabulous parents and neighbors and family and I'm doing alright.

In fact, our home is officially under contract as of a few hours ago, pending the sale of their home, so it must have all worked pretty well.

However, in the contract, I am allowed to take other offers and save them until June 23rd, (Jays' birthday!) the date they have to have their home under contract with another buyer for us to honor the contract with them.  So, in the meantime, I must keep up appearances and keep holding open houses until we are goners.  Most likely we'll be completely moved out by June 27th (my brother's birthday!).

Carazy, eh?

Oh, and just so I don't keep y'all (2 of you) hanging, and if you haven't seen on facebook already, we're moving to Poughkeepsie, NY.

G'nite!

Kid Conversation

If "potty words" offend you, you may want to skip this one...  but I can't fault Peach because at our house, it's okay to use them when you're in the bathroom and she was, in fact, using the toilet during this conversation.

Actually, I was really excited because this is the first time Peach told us she needed to go #2 after putting on her diaper for the night (normally, she'll just go and then when I check on her before bed, her room smells and I have to wake her up and change her diaper...).  Milestone! :D

So, Peach is on the toilet, talking and talking and talking and she lets out a really really loud fart.  I tried my hardest to contain myself, but she was cracking up like crazy and I couldn't help but laugh with her.

me: I just want you to know that I'm laughing because you're laughing.  It's ok to fart on the toilet- that's the best place to do it!
Peach: or in your diaper.
           or on your blankie.

I will never look at her blankie the same way again...

6 lbs of Crisco

I can't believe it!  I emptied one of those giant Crisco cans from Costco.
And it only took 5 years!
That's right... my family has consumed 6 pounds of a mysterious, fatty substance.

yay

First Dentist Visit!

No.  I did not take my camera to the dentist office...  I did want to though... :)

We have tried taking The Frog to the dentist a couple other times, the first time only content to watch me get my teeth cleaned, the next time willing to let them look at his teeth with a mirror while I hold him standing up and this time, triumphantly, we got him to sit in the chair!  (even though he assured me before hand that he was NOT getting in that chair...)  They even got to polish a couple of his front teeth and put on a fluoride varnish.

Well, he came home with a new toothbrush, a cheap TOY, and a sticker!  Based on those three things alone, Peach was sure she was going to love going to the dentist.  She asked about it every day last week with great excitement.  So, when the big day finally arrived yesterday, she sat right in that chair, and let them count, clean, and varnish all her teeth!

I'm sure a past me would be surprised, but

I am so proud of my kids :)

The Frog's First Day of Preschool!

I can't believe it, but The Frog is actually in school- Preschool!  I wanted him to pose for me, but he just wanted to get in the car and go.
He picked out his outfit and even packed himself a "lunch" (fruit snacks, cheetos and wheat thins in a ziplock baggie) in his backpack (that never got eaten because they don't eat lunch there, but he was sure he'd need it!)
I knew he couldn't frown forever.  I told Peach to try and make him laugh.

I admit, I was a bit sad that he didn't even say bye when I left.  Peach was really sad in the car when we drove away.  "Where'd The Frog go, mom?"

Iris's Spring Break: Day 2

Iris and I painted nails in the morning and The Frog decided he wanted to help us paint our toes while I did Iris's fingers.  For my feet, he chose clear and a very pastel peachy color.  For Iris he chose something a bit more bold...
And thought he had no reason to limit himself to only the toenails...  (it took me like 30 minutes to get it all off for her, while her hands dried and some of the red on the feet just wouldn't budge.)
Jay came home early from work to get his blood drawn and we all went bowling before dinner.  (Though he didn't want to bowl.  He basically played babysitter once the kids got restless.)  We've never taken the kids before!  I think The Frog looks so cute in this shot.  His feet perfectly fit into the smallest bowling shoe size!
Peach acting like a teenager on her cute daddy's lap.
I think Iris and I were the only ones who took it seriously.
She ended up winning. I thought about posting the score-card picture, but decided my pride couldn't handle it.  To give you a sense, my first set was a strike, and my second was 00.  Yeah.  I lost.  Even to the kids.
The Frog didn't always use this ramp thingy, but he always went too fast for me to get a picture of him dropping the ball.  I supposed I had ample time to get a shot of his ball creeping down the alley though...  We opted not to play with bumpers.  'Cause we're serious like that.
By the end, the kids were running around in the arcade equipment and Iris and I took turns bowling for the kids.  Of course we always did a great job on their turn, and a lousy one on our own.  I ended up giving the kids a spare on the last set.  I think that's the only spare I bowled the whole game.
It will be fun to come back when Peach is a bit older, but it was fun nonetheless!
