Since December, I've been the secretary of the Young Women's organization of my church. We decided to try to challenge the girls (and ourselves) to read the whole Book of Mormon during their summer break- that is, reading about 7 pages a day for 11 weeks. (starting yesterday) I'm calling it the "7-11 Summer Scripture Challenge".
I remember when I was in seminary (in High School) and they always had "March Madness", where they would challenge you to read the entire Book of Mormon in 1 month. (which I am ashamed to say, I never attempted) I think this seems a lot more manageable (particularly since the girls have no homework now).
If you want to follow along (it's not too late to catch up!), here's the schedule I made and printed out for everyone to use as a bookmark. I just finished reading the Doctrine and Covenants and Pearl of Great Price again, so I'm glad to have a new scripture reading goal.
Each Sunday, during opening exercises, we are having "Scripture Spotlight" time where if any of the girls (or leaders, I suppose) have any scriptures that particularly stuck out to them or that they really liked, they can share them with each other. I have decided to do this as I read on my other blog, if any of you care to follow along.
PS I cheated and started reading last week, so I would be able to tell the girls about my experience so far, when we issued the challenge yesterday.

BYU Women's Conference
I have been helping out with the crocheted edge baby blankets service project at BYU Women's Conference this year. It's been a great experience, but it's nice to have it all finished (as of yesterday).
It was so awesome to be surrounded by so many women, all wanting to serve and learn and try to improve their lives. What a great vibe! I just love how everyone acted like friends, no everyone was friends, even though we all had such differences- backgrounds, ages, experiences, hometowns... all so vast and varied, but we had all come together for a common cause, and that makes us sisters. So fabulous!
I was also impressed with how non-stressful the whole thing turned out to be. I tend to be a walking gray hair when I'm in charge of anything, but everyone was so friendly and non-hurried that I was completely at ease the entire time. Such a blessing!
It was really great to get to know some of the ladies in my neighborhood who were helping out with our project. Turns out that one of them, Sister S, has the coolest job ever- personal assistant to Donny Osmond. For real! According to her, he's a real dream to work with too. He's a perfect gentleman with his head screwed on straight and even opens doors and carries luggage for Sister S all the time. So nice to hear that some people can take the fame and not be annoying and big-headed about it. Particularly nice when they share your religion-- makes you think maybe it's working :)
Another woman in my neighborhood is the head of the ballet department at BYU and said she could definitely help me audit some ballet classes, sans enrolling. Shweet :)
All in all, I'd say Women's Conference was a big up for me this week, and I'm excited to be able to attend another year. Maybe next year I'll be able to go to some of the classes :D

General (ly amazing) Conference
Well, they did it again. Conference was sooo great! I can't wait until the Ensign comes out so I can read through them again. I feel like ever sentence was so packed with goodness, that I missed out on a lot the first time through.
Go President Beck with her notion of women power! She's so awesome! And it was such a testament of the "world-wideness" of the gospel to have so many 70 speakers with accents! It was so awesome!! Although I must admit that it was hard to pay attention to Elder Christoffel Golden Jr. because the whole time I was debating with myself... "where's he from? It's either South Africa or New Zealand. I think South Africa. Wait maybe it IS New Zealand!" Turns out, he's from South Africa (once again Wikipedia saves the day). The Hinck was cuter than ever and I'm so excited about Eyring's new position. I just love listening to him speak, and I suspect we'll get to hear him more often now. :) Ohhhh, and my heart goes out to Elder Wirthlin!! Such a sweetheart! It was so hard to watch him up there shaking so much, but it was also amazing to see him struggle through, out of breath, so that he could say what he came to say- like it was so important, it needed to be said. I was a bit surprised by Elder Holland's zinger about the notion of the trinity being incomprehensible, though very true and very funny. It makes me realize how lucky we are to have these seemly-obvious-but-apparently-not-so-obvious things pointed out to us so that life makes sense! I just love the gospel!
Anyway, now I'll spiritual-high-ified and had to say my two cents. I'm pretty sure you can watch, listen to and/or read any of these online .
Oh yeah, and my little sister is engaged!
