Welcome "Peach" McCarthy!

Born Monday, August 23, 2010 at 1:25 am
7 lbs even
19 inches long
pink and perfect
Well, she finally came! I act as if she was overdue, but she came 6 days before her due date. Labor was MUCH faster this time (6.5 hours versus 29.5 with The Frog), and we were only at the hospital 35 minutes before she arrived- she beat the midwife. I had no tearing, she's eating like a champ, and so far is a great sleeper. Hopefully she'll keep it up! I decided that here on out, she will be referred to as "Peach" on this blog.
The Frog frequently asks about what Peach is doing and where she is and doesn't seem to be too shocked thus far. He looks so cute when he stands with arms out in front and asks to hold her. We're still working on being gentle. :)
Don't let the dark circles under my eyes mislead you- I got to sleep most of the day after this picture was taken :D
Poor girl- infant carseats were not meant for newborns. This is Peach right after we put her in the car. As you can see, she's completely excited about seeing her new home for the first time.

Just for fun, I thought I'd include a baby pic of The Frog next to her for comparison.

Shirt Alteration

My older sister sent a shirt for me amidst the box of hand-me-downs for our little lady. I think it's because I had been complaining about how none of my maternity shirts are long enough any more. It is definitely long enough, but the neck was REALLY too low, and the long sleeves did kind of a weird flarey thing near the wrist. SO, I decided to cut off the sleeves and put in a panel to raise the neckline. I think it turned out really well!

Swimming, no pics, and no baby.

Jay took The Frog swimming twice in the last week (though I only went once and discovered a dead battery after I arrived) and he had a great time going down the huge waterslide with daddy, and finally swimming around on his own!! We have a life-vest-ish thing he wears in the pool (not quite as restraining though) and he can actually kick and doggy paddle well enough to follow Jay around!

Other than that, I'm continually planning on every day to be "the day", but so far, no baby. Were she on The Frog's timetable, we would have had her already. Needless to say, I'm muy disappointed. Looks like I'm going to have to start breaking out the spicy food and running up and down the stairs :) (haha, as if I could)

True

Today after a painting session (which turned into a tape-collage session), after removing the paper and upon seeing all the paint that had seeped through to the table, The Frog pointed at the big blue splotch directly in front of him and declared

"I made a big mess!"

Posicle Sticks

I'm not sure where The Frog learned the phrase "posicle sticks", but that's what he asks for when he wants a popsicle. It's become a daily request, now, and it never ceases to amaze me how darn messy they are, and how little The Frog cares about that.
His sentences are getting much more frequent now too, which is great because he's getting better at expressing himself, instead of just getting angry when he's frustrated. Today he said, "Mom! I need help!" Earlier this week, Jay took The Frog for a walk around the neighborhood after dinner and when they got back, Jay was trying to get him to tell me about what they did. After lots of prompting, my bored little boy walks away saying "I don't remember that."

My First Sweater!

I've been a knitter for several years now, but rarely ventured from scarves and hats because 1) I'm too impatient and 2) I didn't think it likely that I'd actually want to wear anything else I could knit.

Well, I've found a solution to both of those problems-

Knit small articles of clothing for small people (much quicker) who can't do anything but wear what you put on them. The result?

I hope it fits her!

Next project- sweater vest for The Frog.

Little Sicky

The Frog got sick this week, so he's been doing a whole lot of nothing but watching movies. (If I don't do it, he'll run around and won't rest enough).

He's still coughing horridly, but finally is sleeping better at night (thank goodness for me!). Before he got sick, he's been trying to do a summersault and as you can see, being sick doesn't deter him from physical activity.
He can almost make it over, but usually topples to the side.
Regardless, he's very pleased with himself :)
