My ward started a knitting group recently, and I decided this was the best way for me to hop back on the band-wagon and use up some of the skeins and skeins I have all over my craft room. I'm a little too impatient to do anything large-scale, like a sweater, and actually, I rarely knit from a pattern. I decided I should learn to read patterns though and have been delighted by the selection of free ones at ravelry.com . This is one of them- it's a hat with a chin strap that buttons on the other side. I started it before I knew the sex of Baby #2 and once I found out it was a girl, I decided to add this non-descript flower-like embellishment.
I just hand sewed a basting stitch to one side of this grosgrain ribbon and gathered it into a mess and sewed it in place. I think it turned out quite cute! I had so much fun making this one, I decided to make one for The Frog too.
It's still a bit big on him, but he likes wearing it...
until I button the chin strap. Hopefully he'll get over that...

Libby, the hats are incredible! I'm so impressed by your knitting abilities. I still can only do scarves. I just barely taught myself to crochet this weekend. I've been practicing all the different kinds of stitches. I've really been enjoying it. We should get together some day/night and have a knitting/crochet party.
SO cute. Your blog and photos just get better and better!
